There's Music in the Air!

There has been a lot of music in the air in our home lately, and with the end of the school year, a lot of opportunity for the boys to perform their musical talents.

First, Dylan performed in the talent show at the middle school. He did an amazing job! He is quite the performer and has a lot of stage presence. It was fun to watch him in the spotlight.

He performed 2 songs, wearing different appropriate hats for each. He played "The Medallion Calls" from Pirates of the Caribbean first, and then switched hats to play "Don't Stop Believing" which really rocked the house!

What a star!

Unfortunately, the video camera was turned off accidentally, so we didn't get video of his actual performance, but right afterward we had his do it all again on my parents' piano just so we could get it on video for posterity. Not quite the same, but it was the best we could do. (There are a lot of videos in this post, so sit back and enjoy the musak.)

Caleb also had a piano recital after his first year of piano lessons. He started in the fall, and has really come along!

Here he is playing "Scripture Power."

Of course, piano wasn't the only instrument being played. At the middle school band concert, Derek played a trumpet and Dylan played the French horn in the cadet band,

and Nate played the sax in the concert band. The music was wonderful! Those kids all sound so good at the end of the year. Nathan has decided that he is done with band, but I hope he keeps playing the sax anyway!

But he still will be playing the piano, and I am so glad, because he is good at it.

Nate and the twins had a spring piano recital that was really great!

Here is Nathan playing Shades of Blue. I was so proud of him with this piece, because for a long time Nate had to play every song fast and loud - its a boy thing. But as of late he has matured in his playing and was able to perform this song softly and with feeling, as it was meant to be played.

Derek also did a great job. He usually has a lot of nerves, but this time he relaxed and played much better. Nicely done, Derek.

Here is his piece.

Finally, Dylan has his moment at the grand piano.

Here is Dylan's piece - The Spy.

We really need to get ourselves one of these, don't you think? A grad piano would be nice! Each boy had his favorite.

Maybe someday... then there would be even more music in the air.
