Running Wild!

The VanBuskirks have been running wild lately with the Elementary School track meet last weekend and the ward 5K this weekend.

Dylan ran the 800 yards, the 100 yards, and the relay. He did a great job and got two bronze medals!

Derek ran the 400 and the 800. Unfortunately I was not there for those races because I had to take Nathan to a band competition at the same time (Nathan's band got the highest award by the way. He was pretty pleased about their performance!!!) So I have no pictures of Derek's runs, but he ran a few good races from what I hear.

Caleb ran the 100 and participated in the baseball throw. He ran hard and threw hard. In fact he can just short of medaling in the baseball throw. He was so cute doing push-ups to get ready for his throw.

Everybody tried hard and we all had a great time!

Oh, did I mention we got a new family vehicle? Yep! A very classy mini-mercedes looking 6 seater electric car. The lap of luxury! We figured that since we are in electric car distance from a school,m TaeKwanDo, Grandma's house, and soon, our new church building, it would be a smart move to get an electric car to get around the neighborhood in rather than the big gas guzzleing Suburban. (No, they don't make 8 seater electric cars. We checked. But with 6 seats, it still holds more people that Dennis' car.) We got it just the night before, so it was fun to take it to the track meet. In fact, it worked out quite grand because we drove it right onto the blacktop and had a nice shaded place to sit and watch the races! The kids think it is super exciting to ride. Now we'll be running wild all over the neighborhood in our little cart.

The running wild continued yesterday with our ward 5K activity.

Dennis and the 2 older boys were on a scout campout, so it was just me and the 4 younger ones. The other 3 took off and were out of my view within seconds of the start of the race. I stayed with Luke who was on his scooter.

We had gone a whole hundred yards or so when Luke started complaining that his legs were getting tired. He made me carry his scooter, and started running. The he just sat on a curb and declared that he was done. Done. So, when he had gotten a bit of energy back, he and his little friend Brinley made their own route, looping around one small block and made their way back to the finish line. He was pretty excited because we were the first ones across. He couldn't understand why he didn't win a medal. I guess they only give medals for finishing the 5k, not the 0.5k.

So I made my way to a nice spot near the finish line and took pictures of all the runners/walkers/scooters as they rushed past. I was sure to have my camera on the action setting because some of these folks were FAST! Dylan was among the fastest! He came in second for the kids and even beat most of the adults. Running wild indeed!

It was such a beautiful day! What a nice day to be outside! And it was a great turn out. So fun to see everyone!

It was so fun to watch everyone come by in the bright blue shirts and cheer for them. I was impressed by the people who pushed heavy strollers that were heavy laden with kids. They reminded me of the handcarts rolling in.
What a fun day. I sure hope that "1st Annual" means there will be many more to come!

The mercedes is hilarious! I love it. Dennis looks great behind those wheels. What fun for your family. Great shots at the 5K. We need to do more of that sort of thing without stressing Staci out. Love ya.
