SD Camp Out - Balboa Park Pics

I was kinda bummed that our day in Balboa Park was cut short on the first day of our trip because I absolutely love that place! It is one of my favorite things about one of my favorite cities. There is just so much to do and see there, and the architecture and gardens are simply fabulous! It seems that whenever we go to Balboa Park it is either just to go to the zoo or the science center, but there is just so much more to explore, and I am itching to see it all. So I convinced my parents and my sister too get up early on the second day of our trip and come explore the park with me. Of course, nothing was open at that early hour, but at least we could walk around and enjoy it.

Of course, the real reason I wanted to go was to take some pictures!

The good thing was that there were not very many people around, with the exception of a few gardeners, and large groups of Navy folks who were out running (which I thought was pretty cool!)

The bad thing was that the whole reason I wanted to go early is that you get the best photos early in the morning because you get the most interesting shadows due to the angle of the sun. But I had forgotten one important thing - it is never sunny in San Diego in the morning. It is always foggy in the morning and it never burns off each day until late morning. So it was kind of disappointing because my pictures did not work out like I had hoped they would because of the lighting. (Of course if I was wanting to take pictures of people, the conditions would have been perfect - but my parents and my sister were not up for portraits at that hour.) :)

Still, with no sun, I think the pictures turned out pretty good. It was good practice any way, right?

Some of that incredible architecture reminds me so much of Europe! I just love it!

The Old Globe Theater is a replica of Shakespeare's own theatre in England. I really want to come see some Shakespeare here sometime!

The gardens are incredible here, with some really amazing and unusual plants. I just loved this gigantic old tree with the most incredible huge roots! The spaces between the roots were like rooms! My kids would love to play there!

There is a little international village that opens up on Sundays. Each little house represents a different nation. I just loved the fun little cottages!

What an enjoyable walk we had around the beautiful Balboa Park that morning! I am really anxious to go back and explore some more when the sun is out and the museums are open - just not again on a Tuesday.
