Another Week of Awards!

Momma and Luke were busy last week attending 4 different awards programs.

At the elementary school, Caleb, Derek, and Dylan each earned a gold medal for their annual read-a-thon competition. From October to March, the kids have to keep track of their reading and turn in lists. For first graders, a list is 12 books. For 5th graders a list is 250 pages. And in order to win a gold medal you have to turn in at least 8 lists, so there was a whole lot of reading going on in our house!

Good job super-readers!

Then, at the middle school, both Alex and Nathan were recognized for their stellar grades!!! They both did so well this quarter. Alex earned straight A's again, of course, but Nate was about as close as you could get (all A's except for an 89% in just one class - ouch! Still very good though.)

On top of that, Nathan got a very special award, the "Character Counts" award given to him by Mrs. Thomas, the drama teacher. Every teacher gets to give a special award to one student who is an example of the character that they have been studying in the school that month. This time it was honesty. In her nomination, which was read to the audience, she said "Nathan, I have been so impressed with your honest-to-goodness portrayal of a Pirate King! You were the first to have your part memorized, and have been, honestly, so reliable that I don't know what I would do without you! Congratulations!"

The interesting thing is that every teacher gets to choose one of their students, and Nathan is not actually one of her students. She just had to pick him anyway!

So, after last week we can add 3 medals, and 6 certificates to our family medal count! Way to go you smart boys!
